Milla Thyme is offering us a little slice of hope with his track Heaven Looks Like.
The debut single off his album Everything Has Its Thyme (out in April 2021 via URBNET), is an ode to his love of food and the heavenly sense of connection it can bring.
On the track, Milla paints us a picture of his childhood memories of cooking with his family and the universal pleasure of enjoying a meal together.
“There’s a certain kind of magic that can take place at family gatherings from the food to the wisdom and storytelling that is exchanged…” said the artist, “...and this is something we see across all cultures.”
The music drives this message home. It begins with a bluesy piano riff that sets the signature gospel groove of the song, hooking the listener in instantly.
Milla’s fresh rap vocals and storytelling with Tennant’s soulful and airy singing in the chorus creates a sense of home, hope and even a tinge of nostalgia.
Paired with bright and colourful visuals, the music is accompanied by a creative time-lapse of a plate of soul food floating in a moving background of heavenly skies.
Food however, is “just a slice of it” according to Milla. Heaven Looks Like can also be about finding heaven in other things in your life and feeling grateful for what you have.
Coming at a time when the world is experiencing a historical revolution -- particularly in Black America -- and during a global pandemic no less, Heaven Looks Like is a reflection on the simpler times.
It's both a celebration and a reminder to look back at the impactful moments that have made us, in order to look forward during these times.
Heaven Looks Like comes out October 2nd, 2020 via URBNET.
